Studio Manager Needed

Sarah Moon for Issey Miyake

I am looking for a studio manager. Ideally, this person is someone who has other gigs going on, because I cannot commit to a fixed salary, but always need help a few times a week.

The work mostly happens from my home studio in Brooklyn, though occasionally, some work can be done from home. The studio is located off the L train in Brooklyn. This position also requires running to factories and vendors to support product development and production.

I am looking for someone with schedule flexibility. I want to allow the studio manager to create their own schedule, but it must also compliment mine, which is irregular and sometimes packed. The manager must be reliable and not flake out day of when we make plans. This will not be tolerated whatsoever.

Other requirements:

• Hand sewing capabilities
• Willingness to do minor manual labor (lift boxes, put together displays, carry things).
• Basic understanding of Excel / Google Sheets
• Basic computer skills, ideally with Mac since that’s what we have in the studio

Previous retail management experience is suitable, or any prior work done with your hands, but other fashion experience in product development and production is also welcomed, though not necessary.

This position is a managerial role that requires self-sufficiency and reliability.

This is not a design job, and no creative input will be invited in the design process. There are other ways in which the job is creative, so don’t think it’ll be boring, just please do not expect to provide creative input during photoshoots, help with art direction, or hat design. Obviously share any ideas you have, but please remember this is a supporting role to maintain my vision for Bagtazo.

The ideal person for this position is someone who has their own art form they are cultivating and wants to learn how an independent company is run. You will certainly learn a lot.

Please understand that this is a very personal business, we work from my home studio. We will work very closely together, so the pairing has to be a balance between professional experience, friendship compatibility, long-term desires, and schedule availability. So if I do not think we are a good fit, it is not because of you, it is because of this complex little world I live in and how nuanced this pairing must be in it.

Thanks in advance!
